Bogotá Information

The city is the largest in Colombia and is also one of South America’s fastest growing metropolitan areas. After 1940, large numbers of rural Colombians migrated to Bogota in search of greater economic opportunities and the population rapidly grew. It currently stands at over eight million, twenty times greater than the number of inhabitants just half a century ago. It is home to the National University of Colombia as well as several other universities making it the chief educational centre in the country. Today Bogota is a bustling city in continuous and rapid expansion. Whatever you are looking for can be found in Bogota, services, entertainment, nightlife and culture.

Bogotá is the country's capital, located at an elevation of about 2,650 m. / 8,660 ft. on a mountain rimmed plateau high in the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes Mountains. This gives it constant spring like weather. It lies only 4°36' north of the equator.

El Dorado Airport

El Dorado International Airport (IATA: BOG, ICAO: SKBO) is an international airport located in Bogotá, Colombia. It is the largest Latin American airport in terms of cargo movements 585,598 tons (2007) and the fourth in terms of passenger traffic ; as well as the largest airport in Colombia and the main international and domestic air gateway in the country, serving as an important hub for Avianca (the national flag carrier of Colombia) and AeroRepública. El Dorado is, politically and economically, the most important airport in Colombia and serves as the nation's primary international gateway. It handles all domestic and international flights into Bogotá, D.C. and boasts the world's third largest landing field 6.9 km² (1,705 acres) of land. El Dorado is located about 15 km (9.3 mi) west of the city center.
