- IVAO Venezuela 2009 -
The IVAO Divisions of Venezuela and Colombia have joined efforts to create an unique virtual experience in the South American skies: “Real Flight Event” Partnership.
This Guide includes important useful information which will enhance your experience and ease the operations during the event:
1. Charts
Charts are mandatory for the event. Without them, both pilots and controllers will not take advantage of the enriching experience of the event. Real pilots do not fly without charts, therefore let’s make it “As real as it gets”.
Charts of Venezuela available here
Simon Bolivar International Airport Charts available here
2. Scenery
There are two sceneries of Maiquetia which are mandatory as they feature proper locations for runways and taxiways. Therefore, please download and install one out of these sceneries:
> PAYWARE: Blueprint Simulations SVMI
> FREEWARE: SVMI Maiquetía (Jacob Parra)
3. Flight Booking:
Those IVAO members which book at least one of the available flights, they will be given a specific gate for departure, and will also have priority for departures and arrivals.
Each one of the flights has a specific gate or ramp, as well as a specific terminal, in order to ease the pressure between pilots and ATC, as well as avoid potential conflicts between traffics when using the same gate. Therefore, it is necessary to abide the following instructions:
> Outcoming Traffic: They must be connected to the gate assigned by the booking flight system. If the gate is occupied by any other person which has not booked a flight, you must find a gate available nearby the assigned gate,
> Incoming Traffic: Air Traffic Controllers will have a list with all callsigns and assigned gates. However, let’s help them by indicating in the flightplan remarks section, the number of the gate. For instance: RMK / GATE 6 (SVMI)
> As occurs in real life, when landing, it is possible that your gate is occupied by another airplane. If this happens, you will be instructed to wait until your gate is free or a new gate will be assigned to you.

5. Departure Procedures
Flightplan clearance:
Once that you have prepared your aircraft and the flightplan has been duly filled and sent, you must contact “Maiquetia Clearance” (SVMI_DEL) on 119.50 in order to obtain your IFR clearance.
When requesting your clearance, you must include the following information:
Ø Callsign
Ø Gate
Ø Aircraft Type
Ø ATIS Confirmation
Ø Destination
Example:
“Maiquetia Clearance, Good Afternoon, Alven 123, Domestic Gate 06, DC93, with BRAVO, requests clearance to Valencia.
The Clearance must include:
Ø Callsign
Ø Destination
Ø Standard Departure
Ø Runway in use
Ø Squawk Code
Example:
“Alven 123, cleared to Valencia, 1MARES departure, expect Runway 09, Squawk 1501.
Charts indicate the initial flight altitude to be abided by pilots.
Ground – Pushback and Startup:
On first contact with Maiquetia Ground frequency (SVMI_GND) on 121,90, you should inform them of your gate or ramp number:
“Maiquetia Ground, Alven123 Domestic Gate 06, requests clearance for pushback and startup”
Once cleared, it is necessary to ensure that you will not cause any conflict with other aircrafts during pushback. The Controller may give you a conditioned clearance; it means a clearance that may only be carried out once certain conditions have been met. For example:
“Alven 123, after the crossing of Aserca DC93, you are cleared to pushback and engine startup, gate 06”
This means that only the startup and pushback may be done once the traffic has carried out the crossing behind your position.
Ground - Taxi:
When requesting taxi clearance, the instructions to the runways must be followed carefully, and always respecting the traffic sequence.
As you approach to the holding point of the assigned runway, you must notify to the controller in order to receive further instructions, and contact Maiquetia Tower (SVMI_TWR) on 118.10.
Takeoff
When contacting Maiquetia Tower, please use only your callsign and the assigned runway for takeoff. In the right time (when you are number one in the holding short point), you will receive the clearance for takeoff as follows:
“Alven 123 after the departure of Laser’s DC93, you are cleared to line up on runway 09”
After:
“Alven 123 winds _____ QNH _____ Cleared for takeoff, runway 09, when airborne contact Maiquetia Approach on 120.10”
The following may also be used:
“Alven 123 after the departure of Laser’s DC93, you are cleared to line up and takeoff runway 09, winds _____ QNH _____. When airborne contact Maiquetia Approach on 120.10”
Please set your transponder in Charlie Mode once you enter to the active runway.
Initial Climb
When Airborne, please check your charts and follow the ATC instructions. In the first contact with Maiquetia Approach (SVMI_APP) on 120.10, there must be reported the crossing altitude, the cleared initial altitude (as set forth in the charts), and the standard departure procedure, for example:
“Maiquetia Approach, Alven 123, is at 1500 feet to 4000ft, 1 MARES”
Thereafter, you will receive instructions for climbing until switched with the following ATC control sector.
6. Arrival Procedures:
Initial Descent
As you approach to the “top of descent” and if you had not received any ATC instruction to descent, you must request such clearance to the controller as follows:
“Maiquetia Control, Alven 123, requests descent”
DON’T descend if you are not cleared just because your FMS says so. You must always be cleared to change the flight level.
7. Approach
Maiquetia Airport features five IAF’s (KORLI, DARPA, REKON, MARES and ROMEX). SVMI_APP will clear you to carry out any of the procedures for the runway in use, or may be guided by vectors. It is important to remind you to check the altitude in the charts for these fixes.
At some stage during the approach, you will be instructed to contact Maiquetia Tower (SVMI_TWR) on 118,10), which will clear you to perform an ILS approach. It is likely that you will be given the following instructions with the frequency change:
8. Landing
Maiquetia Airport has 6 taxiways (A to F) to Runway 10. It is very important to check your charts and vacate the runway as quick as you can. Don’t stop you aircraft on the runway, slow down and proceed to the closest taxiway you have. Be aware to switch your transponder to standby mode once you have left the runway.
