IVAO Crowded Skies 2012

JANUARY 19TH, 2013: IVAO Crowded Skies 2012

Dear IVAO members,

2013 is an important year in IVAOs history, at the end of 2013, IVAO would complete 15 years of service to the flight simulation community. We start this Crystal Year celebration with a bang! On January 19th, 2013, we bring to you the most prestigious event within the flight simulation community Crowded Skies. This record breaking event sets the entire IVAO skies alive and active, with air traffic around the world supported by unimaginable air traffic control coverage. It is during the Crowded Skies that we have established the maximum number of simultaneous connections on the network. Our previous record was 2,303 (!) simultaneous connections, where we had more than 9,600 flights. During our Crystal Year, we are all geared up to beat the record and we welcome you to participate in this event on January 19, 2013. This of course is a daylong event and we expect peak traffic to start building from 18:45 UTC onwards.

IVAO and Aerosoft have joined hands during this event for a noble cause. Thanks to IVAO, last two years, Aerosoft has generously offered € 1,900 to the "Guder Orphanage Center" in Ethiopia. Aerosoft has agreed to contribute equivalent Euro's for the maximum simultaneous connections achieved during this Crowded Skies Event. For eg., if we have 2,000 simultaneous users Aerosoft will contribute Euro 2000 to charity.

All the contributions will be made this year to the "Health-Care Jimma-Bonga" project. This organization supports the problems of the village Jimma, Ethiopia, in the north east of Africa. Two buildings are being erected here for the care and medical help for handicapped children and youngsters. One of the stations has already started service by taking care of 600 handicapped children. The other building is still under development and can be finished soon with the help and donations by its supporters. One of the most important things to be the fencing of the area surrounding the buildings as it is a requirement by the governing bodies. If this fencing had not been completed at a certain date the building still under construction would have been taken over by the government. Thankfully this obstacle has been overcome with the help of the donations. The next task is equipping the building with sanitary needs, kitchen facilities as well as building a well for water supplies.
