13:00 - [NL] Henk Kruijer memorial

On November 21st 2016 Henk Kruijer -one of the most beloved and distinguished members of the Netherlands Division- passed away after a short but fierce illness at the age of 74.

Henk Kruijer has been an IVAO-member since 2004 and recorded nearly 26000 flying hours on our network. Many members of the Dutch Division have also relied on Henk for his online assistance in solving hardware- and software problems.

Surrounded by numerous computers in his living room -for sometimes more than sixteen hours a day- he flew long haul flights, reconfigured computers of troubled fellow IVAO members using Teamviewer and talked to other pilots on Skype. All simultaneously!

In the past years, Henk’s life has been dominated by an intense social contact with online friends. The IVAO network thereby served as an indispensable element in his life as old age pensioner. Divorsed and with no contact with family members IVAO became Henk's life.

It is because of this that I started to realize that IVAO is not just a “flying game”, but most certainly a structure that enables many elderly amongst us to communicate with the outside world. In fact, many of them are seriously depending on our network!

This dependency should be recognized by all IVAO staff members and motivate them to continue their excellent work and effort to maintain and improve the IVAO community.

In memory of Henk Kruijer –callsign KLM042- the Netherlands Division will host a Memorial Flight on December 11th between 13:00 Zulu and 15:00 Zulu at EHAM.

Participating pilots are invited to arrive at Schiphol Airport during this period. Their aircraft will be parked on a taxiway along the take-off runway. At 15:00 Zulu pilots of the Virtual Netherlands Airforce will perform a low pass over the runway after which the KLM042 will take off for his flight to a destination unknown.

You are kindly invited to participate in this Memorial Flight.
